This is a series of cool things you need to know about buying Medieval Swords or Samurai Swords Online
1.- Find out if it is a sword First. (The Japanese Sword Experience)
Some of you might be thinking, hey its obvious that it has to be a sword if I’m going to buy it.It seems a pretty obvious quiestion when buying a sword. It might sound stupid but believe me it is very important to take a look at the instructions and descriptions when ever your buying a sword.
Imagine that a couple of months ago i received a phone call from a friend telling me that there was a retail store selling samurai swords at very low prices. Whe he said $28 Usd I realized it was very low. I couldn’t believe it. It is impossible that any retail store has best prices than I do. And whe I say IMPOSSIBLE, it is IMPOSSIBLE. The next day I went to take a look, my friend was very exited because we made a bet, if it was real I was going to buy it to him if it was not real he had to pay me 28 dollars.
Can you guess what happened??? This might sounds weird, but it was not a Samurai Sword, It was a Samurai Sword UMBRELLA!!!! Yes an Umbrella that looked like a Samurai Sword. It seems that the store found a cool product and put a big announcement “New Samurai Swords Cool Umbrella for Just $28 Usd. My friend never read the umbrella part of the announcement. I believe it’s a good lesson make sure it is what you want.
2.- I want the lady on the pic!!!!!
The other day I was exploring google , to see if I could find new things for my online store; you know new products or, information what ever. You know for me it sis very important to have cool info on the blog, and the store, to compare prices, all that.
I found a cool blog that had nothing to do with swords but it had some pics with beautiful ladies holding cool swords. The first thing that came to my mind was “Hey does the sword price includes the lady????” Jajaja of course it was not a serious question but at the end I thought about something that is practical for you.
When we are buying swords it is very important to see if it is sharp or not. Sometimes you want it to be a big, amazing, sharp sword;or some times you need to know how big it is or if it comes w/plaque. It is very useful to read the description and see what they say about the product.
3.- Whats your purpose???
“Why I want this sword for?”, must be your first question.
I have all types of clients, some of them have never bought a sword before and they believe they can use any sword for any purpose.
What you need to know is this not all swords are good for all purposes.
A good example, imagine you buy a great sword, you really like it. You come to my store and buy it for lets say 25% MRSP off. You know it is a very good price. One day you see your favorite medieval movie, now is the moment to use your sword. You try to use your brand new sword to cut a giant ice cube like they do on the movie. Guess what??? Your sword will disappoint you, it is not made for cutting.
So when you are buying a sword make sure what you want it for. If you want it for ornamental purposes, go ahead, buy a beautiful non battle ready sword. If you want to go fight against the terrible army of the Ice Cube Men, then buy a battle ready sword.
Swords have a long history in China. Stone swords were used in prehistoric times. Bronze swords have been traced back to the bronze daggers of the Shang period. Bronze long swords suddenly appeared during the mid-third century BC.

Anyone interested in Medieval Weaponry and Swords Should Know This
Hey guys!!! I’m really glad to be writing this post. As you know the
last weeks I have been writing about humorous tips that you can use when
buying your swords or any other collectible you really like.
Well today I want to be a little bit more serious. Yeahhh I agree with you, most of the info we find on the Internet is boring or useless and that’s why humorous info seems to be better and that is not the thing, the thing is that we, swords collector also need to know real facts about what we are buying, you will that a sword collector that knows nothing about medieval times is just a sword buyer.
That’s why I want to share with you some info about what we collect, at the end we are not collecting a nice piece of metal, but we are collecting a nice piece of metal with come kind of representative history behind it .
That is particularly true. When we think about medieval times we believe that knights were some kind of heroes that were very important when the battle begun. It is true they were important in battle but at the end battling was not as important in war as winning.
What???? What does that means??? It means that knights are in come way overrated. Sorry I was disappointed too…
Imagine you are on the battle of Arsuf . You are noble member of the cavalry of Richard the 1st back in 1191. After days of battle you and your army, finally win the battle against Saladin. Who do you think is going to write history??? The vassals or nobles??? The ordinary foot soldier or you the knight, the noble???
Wars in the middle ages were not only fought in battlefields. Actually, many battles won by knights were not conclusive. War was fought to win lands and during medieval times you could only win lands by conquering cities and castles. So the siege battles were more important than the battlefield battles.
In fact one of the most useful techniques was to destroy and burn. Knights, archers and foot soldiers use to destroy and burn their enemies’ lands to diminish their enemies’ power, reputation and economical power.
At the end it is not about the real importance of knights war, it is about history and what we can collect. I don’t imagine my self collecting siege weapons in my backyard JAJAJAJAJAJAJA, but it is important as Medieval Sword collectors to know about swords history.

Which One Was The Best Medieval Army Unit?
Medieval Swords And Weaponry is important but which one of this 3 units was the best?
I agree with you, it is almost impossible to give the right answer,
and I can add it is not my intension to be the “expert” or the “sword
fighting guru” of the XXIst century. How ever while you are reading this sitting in front of your computer, 700 years ago, guys like you and me were preparing for war. They were ready for battle, equipped with the most advanced medieval weapons of their countries, and it is cool to ask ourselves: “Who was the best?”
Mongolian Heavy Cavalry
When we think about the Mongolian Army the first image that comes to our minds is an archer riding a horse, but we forget that there was a Mongolian Heavy Cavalry . The Mongolian cavalry were less equipped than others but it was faster, lighter and more flexible an it was very well organized.
Yes the Mongolian Heavy Cavalry was equipped with bows and they were equipped with a very powerful sword similar to a japanese katana. This Mongolian Unit used a particular combat technique.
They would right towards the enemy, they would attack them with their bows they would do this 3 or 5 times until the enemy was weak enough to be attacked man to man with their swords.
Mameluc Cavalry
This guys were very smart. They had a rule, no horse man should go into battle if he is not equipped with a lance or a bow. They would attack first with their long lances, then strike with a saber. Instead of killing the enemy they would try to create fatal wounds so that the other army would need to take care of the wounded instead of fighting.
We have to admit it, this guy knew their jobs.
Saint John’s knights
Most people believe that templar knights were the only ones to protect the Holy Land, they forget that there was a more disciplined warriors: Saint John’s Knights.
This knights were prepared to close combat. They were not rich and may not have had as many resources as the templar order did, and that’s why we admire them. With nothing but a longsword they defended the holy land and were as effective as other armies.
Now It is up to you to choose one of this 3 military units
Custom Katana and Project X
Below you'll find a couple new reviews, one of an ebay tanto and the other a quick overview of the Hanwei Tori XL (which between these two reviews, cover both the low and the high price range of the production Japanese style blade market!) so check them out and keep the reviews coming guys!
You'll find more bits and pieces, including an excellent article on tactical swords in this months issue of the Sword Buyers Digest which is of course a must have read in preperation for the imminent Zombie onslaught that is commonly known as 'Halloween'... ;-)
